MiniDisc Data Equipment Notes
- MD-Data equipment uses a slightly different media than MD-Audio
gear and in general the two classes of equipment have poor
interoperability. The MD-Data and MD-Audio cartridges are shaped
slightly differently, and the Read-only TOC information on the discs
are different. The result is that Data MD equipment cannot generally
write to Audio MDs, and vice versa. Some Data-MD equipment can play
MD-Audio discs (via an audio-out jack on the unit), and the multi-track recorders (see the multitrack equipment
table) can use MD-Audio discs in a diminished 2-track recording
mode.
