Full size Binocular mount for our Cardiods and Premium Binaurals
How the full size Binocular mount
works:
The system starts with a standard set of full-size binoculars. We
then remove most of the optics to allow space for the microphones
inside of the optic cavity of the binoculars. The eye pieces and
their mounting surface and permanently bonded together to form a
single piece assembly (see pics).
Two holes are provided in the front of the binoculars for the microphones
to be mounted into. The mic elements extend just beyond the front
surface of the binocular housing. In the rear of the housing, two
slots are fabricated for the mic cables to exit the housing and
run up and behind the neck strap. The mic cables are held in place
with elastic bands behind the neck strap. The mic cables run along
the back of the strap until they converge at the top of the strap,
behind the users neck, where they can be tucked neatly inside a
shirt or jacket.
The full size Binocular mount is designed so that the microphones
can be easily installed by the user, and is compatible with all
Sound Professionals Cardioid and Premium Binaural microphones sold
to date.
To install the mics, the user lifts off the top portion of the binoculars
containing the eyepieces. Next, the microphones are threaded through
the elastic loops on the back of the neck strap (much like threading
a belt through belt loops on a pair of trousers). Then, the mics
are placed inside the optic cavity so that their mic elements are
just outside the body of the binoculars. Once the mics are in place,
the cables are inserted into the cable slots on the rear of the
mic body and the eyepiece assembly is replaced on top of the binocular
body.
The mics can be aimed by adjusting the binocular angle, much as
you would adjust real binoculars to fit the distance between your
eyes.
The binocular mics are worn around the neck, just like you would
wear regular binoculars. You don't hold the binocular up to your
eyes while recording. The mics are attached to your recorder
or battery module in the exact same manner as they would without
the mount.

Mini
Binocular mount for Cardiods and Binaurals
How the mini Binocular mount works:
The system starts with a set of mini binoculars. We then remove
most of the optics to allow space for the microphones inside of
the optic cavity of the binoculars.
The mic elements extend just beyond the front surface of the binocular
housing. The mic cables exit the housing in the rear and are used
in place of the neck strap. The mic cables converge behind the users
neck, where they can be tucked neatly inside a shirt or jacket.
The mini Binocular mount differs from the full size mount in that
the mics are installed permanently by our technicians. They can
not be removed. However, because the mic elements remain outside
the housing in the front, you can still change the elements (on
models that have this feature).
The mics can be aimed by adjusting the binocular angle, much as
you would adjust real binoculars to fit the distance between your
eyes.

wear regular binoculars. You don't hold the binoculars up to
