In the early days, in order to fit all that music on one disk, they had to make the disks really big. Actually what they started with was an LP record enclosed in a protective jacket. This was the beginning of MD technology.

Now I've heard that the MD system is fully compatible, backwards and forwards... any MD disc will work in any MD player, unless of course it's MD Data, but it doesn't say anything about that here...
