Hi,
Sorry to bother.
A guy in my office has offered to sell me his MZ-R2 for $220, this seems like a good price, no? It's in good condition and all, but as much as I love the technology, I keep wondering if it really makes sense to get an MD machine.
A few simple questions:
What's the best media price these days, here in Japan I don't see anything lower than about $10 for a 60 minute disc. If the media price doesn't come down, it's really not very cost effective (vs CD for $15).
What's the deal with the minidisc data drive? Is it out? Can I use it to digitally copy music MD's? (MD datadrive->hard disk->MD datadrive)?
Finally, is there a FAQ someplace?
Thanks for your time.
Regards,
Rick Woudenberg

If you're sold on the convenience and decent audio quality for a portable, it makes sense. The MZ-R2 is probably the most solid and field-tested portable to date.

My friend in Japan says prices are usually lower there than in the US. During sales and promotions he has seen 74's going for well less than $10! He keeps offering to send me blanks, but somehow that didn't seem to make sense.

It's out. It's slow. It will NOT write music MD's regardless of source.

Yes, but I forgot where ... somewhere is the bowels of nstn.ca....
